After M. Night Shyamalan's Split was revealed to be set in the same universe as the director's earlier film Unbreakable, people have been really excited for the movie that would merge both of those films more fully. We've known for months the next movie would be called Glass, and previously at CinemaCon, the director shared a clip featuring Sarah Paulson's character working with patients who "believe" they have superpowers. Not all of us were lucky enough to be there to see that footage, but this morning, M. Night Shyamalan shared the first official poster for the movie, which brings back the earlier movies' heroes and villains, and people who are somewhere in between. Take a look.
Glass is expected to bring back Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson as David Dunn and Mr. Glass from Unbreakable, as well as Jame's McAvoy's The Beast and Anya Taylor-Joy's Casey Cooke from Split. The poster focuses on the three male characters, or more accurately, what looks to be their reflections on a shiny floor, possibly in a hospital ward. We know from the previous footage that Sarah Paulson will also be involved in the new movie, playing a psychiatrist who sees patients who she believes have delusions of grandeur, so a hospital setting would make sense.
Glass finished wrapping up production late last year. We saw Anya Taylor-Joy on set around that time, and we'll presumably be learning more about Casey's life following the events of Split, when she survived a long encounter with The Beast. I'd also like to know more about the aftermath of her relationship with her uncle following what we learned about him in Split. From what was shown in the CinemaCon clip, it also featured footage of the three male characters up to similar antics that we've seen from them in previous movies, which isn't really a huge surprise, but does sort of set the stage for where the new movie can go without giving too much away about the plot. The movie won't actually hit theaters until January 18, 2019, but with this first-look poster, hopefully that means some more substantial footage --hopefully a trailer! -- will be on the way. All in all, it looks as if the movie will be more of a direct sequel to Unbreakable than Split was, and we can't wait to see what that entails.
After all, although we sort of know a little more about how the major characters will interact in the new movie, much of M. Night Shyamalan's Glass has been shrouded in mystery, which is likely just the way the twist ending director likes it. For everything we know about Glass, keep an eye on our full guide.
