Few studios take secrecy more seriously that Marvel, which is why that franchise manages to defy expectations and deliver out-of-nowhere storylines on a consistent basis. That said, some insiders have had trouble maintaining secrecy as members of the MCU, with Mark Ruffalo standing out as a clear example. The actor caused a stir last year when he accidentally live-streamed the first twenty minutes of Thor: Ragnarok on Instagram, and it sounds like he actually thought he would be fired for the error. In a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Mark Ruffalo explained:
In all fairness, it was in my pocket, and they heard the first 20 minutes. 15? When I knew, first my phone was blowing up and I was getting all these texts and I was like, 'I hope my mom's OK.' But I was like, 'I can't check my phone in the middle of the theater, that's rude, especially in my own movie.' Then, someone from Disney came up, a woman, and she poked me, and she said, 'Turn off your phone! I said, 'What, what?' Your phone is on, turn off your phone!... So, I thought I was going to get fired.
Mark Ruffalo has previously spoken out about it being an honest mistake, but he's now elaborated exactly what he was feeling when the event occurred. Once people started to catch on that Mark Ruffalo was accidentally live-streaming the movie, colleagues and friends began to furiously text and call him. He wouldn't check his phone because he wanted to be respectful in the theater, and the end result was that Disney reps eventually had to come over to him and demand that he turn the phone off. Based on what he had to say about the encounter, it sounds like he thought he would join Edward Norton and Eric Bana in the realm of former Hulk actors because of the mistake.

Despite Mark Ruffalo's issues with Marvel secrecy, we should note that he's far from the only actor to reveal key information. Specifically, Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland has become notorious for not being able to keep Marvel secrets, and his co-stars appear to delight in mocking him for it. Ruffalo may have made a mistake, but he has company over there in spoiler world.
Of course, now it all looks like ancient history, as the release of Thor: Ragnarok mostly went off without a hitch for Marvel Studios, and Mark Ruffalo soon moved on to the promotional campaign for Avengers: Infinity War.
